Option 1 - Build your own QatHome public screen (from 180€, full screen, fully automatic, any size)


Step A - Buy an HDMI monitor/tv (from 120 €)

QatHome is tested only with:

  • United 20" HDMI tv
  • United 32" HDMI tv
  • (Any HDMI monitor/tv should work but of course we couldn't test them all)

How to setup your HDMI monitor/tv:

  • Disable tv auto-standby (if your have an HDMI tv)
  • Switch it on with the remote (if your have an HDMI tv)
  • Set video source from HDMI
  • Keep the Android Mini-PC connected
  • A 24-hour test (or a longer test) is highly recommended

Step B - Buy a Mini-pc Android (HDMI stick) (from 60 €)

QatHome is tested only with:

  • Rikomagic MK802IV RK3188
  • (Any Mini-pc Android / HDMI stick should work)

How to setup your android mini-pc:

  • Plug the Android Mini-PC into the monitor/tv HDMI input and power the Mini-Pc with the micro-usb cable
  • Connect Android to wifi
  • Do not link a google account or disable auto-updates from google play store
  • Uninstall or disable useless apps
  • Do not disable google play and google service framework if present (IMPORTANT)
  • Download and install Fully Kiosk Browser Lockdown
  • Set your public screen url (qathome.com/youraccount/public) as home url of Fully Kiosk Browser
  • Set Fully Kiosk Browser to run on startup
  • Download and install Autostart and StaY and set it to autorun fully kiosk browser
  • In Autostart and StaY options for fully kiosk browser, check autostart and choose zero second delay after Wifi is connected (IMPORTANT)
  • In Autostart and StaY options for fully kiosk browser, check stay option (Ensures an app is always running; foreground or background)
  • In Autostart and StaY options for fully kiosk browser, check persistent option (Makes an app always stay in the foreground)
  • In Autostart and StaY options for fully kiosk browser, go back to return to autostart and staY main menu
  • In Autostart and StaY global options, check start service on boot
  • In Autostart and StaY global options, set control interval to 15 seconds (setting a short interval will make it hard for you to change settings)
  • Reboot and test screen behaviour
  • A 24-hour test (or a longer test) is highly recommended

Option 2 - Buy a web-TV (around 300€, big size only, not full screen, easier to set-up, manual switch-on)


Step A and B - Buy and set-up a web-TV

QatHome is tested only with:

  • Samsung TV 60" LED UE60H6200 FULL HD 3D SMART TV
  • (Other web-TVs are very likely to work but have not been tested)

How to setup your Samsung web-tv:

  • Disable auto-standby
  • Disable safety 4hours-standby (yes there are two stand-by options)
  • Set your public screen url (qathome.com/youraccount/public) as web browser home page
  • Manually open the web browser every time you switch on the tv
  • (Full screen is not possible unless the TV's browser allows it)
  • A 24-hour test (or a longer test) is highly recommended


Option 3 - Use any pc or laptop (full screen, fully automatic, any size)


From windows

How to setup your windows web kiosk to run manually:

  • Open your public screen url (qathome.com/youraccount/public) as web browser home page

How to setup your windows web kiosk to run automatically (tested on Windows 8.1):

  • Disable auto-standby and auto switch-off screen form control panel - power management
  • Put the anti-standby tool Caffeine in the startup folder (recommended)
  • Disable Google Chrome auto updates
  • Remove antivirus and useless softwares
  • Disable Windows auto-updates
  • In the startup folder add a link with the following target destination
  • "C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" --kiosk --disable-session-crashed-bubble --disable-infobars www.qathome.com/dottore/public
  • Customize the above link with your account (qathome.com/youraccount/public)
  • Disable safety 4hours-standby (yes there are two stand-by options)
  • Set your public screen url (qathome.com/youraccount/public) as web browser home page
  • Manually open the web browser every time you switch on the tv
  • (Full screen is not possible unless the TV's browser allows it)
  • A 24-hour test (or a longer test) is highly recommended

From linux

How to setup your linux web kiosk to run manually:

How to setup your linux web kiosk to run automatically:

  • Linux offers several lightweight kiosk distributions such as Porteus Kiosk
  • Configure your linux kiosk to connect to the internet and open your screen page (qathome.com/youraccount/public)
  • A 24-hour test (or a longer test) is highly recommended
